And let’s turn this into a next-gen Z thread. What do you want to see in the next Z?
Personally, I’d like to see it called the 400ZX, come with a turbo-4, and either a fastback or electric targa roof. That’d be sweet.

As long as there’s a manual transmission available and they don’t make it hideously ugly and bloated, I’ll be fine with whatever they call it.

I know the joke is old hat, but fuck it. Good gracious, that's some damn turbo lag!

I still maintain the 350 looks better than the 370. The 370 looks like a pug in a wind tunnel.

I wonder if they could drop about 300lbs? Keep the hp the same, or around 290-310.
All while keeping the price around $30,000?
It doesn't matter as I wouldn't buy one anyway, but it would be a cool car.

Personally, I’d like to see something similar to the ‘99 concept. Not necessarily in style, but in concept. Lighter, smaller, and pure.
Style wise? A happy bright face over an angry angular aggressive one any day.

Partially agree. I like the post-refresh 350 (06-08) better than the 370, but I like the 370 better than the early 350. Also, I think all the Z roadsters look like poo.

smaller, lighter, turbo engine

Wow. If they released that with some modern wheels and less of a wheel well gap, they would have something.
For some reason that concept works for me. I'd forgotten about that.

No.

I want it to remain a two seater and be the budget Boxster/Cayman altenative like back in the mid-2000s. The pony cars kept getting more powerful and capable, and now the Z barely competes with the new Camaro V6.
I’d like to see the the VR 3.0L TTV6 engine in its tunes for the Q50 inside the Z, but $10k off. That would place it at 300hp for $30k and 400hp for $40k. Great timing since TTV6s won’t be in any of the Pony cars and the 718s are now 4-cyl. That will make the power train unique in the market.
Only thing that could happen is the fact that Hyundai is keeping the Not-a-Genesis Genesis Coupe around but we have NO information about that one either (or what it will be called). The original GenCo was made to be between the 370Z in terms of engine and power, and the G37 in terms of rear seats and ride. So both brands are kind of waiting to see what will happen. Nissan may have to go 3.0T only or else the Hyundai will match and be cheaper using a mix of 2.0T, 3.8L, and 3.3T in the lineup. That VR keeps the Nissan at an advantage.

The z designation is associated with engine displacement (350z is 3.5 liters, 370z is 3.7 liters) so it’s unlikely there would be a 400z with a turbo 4. I’d like a 380z with a motor similar to the GTR minus the turbo and for the love of god if they could stop “enhancing” the exhaust note that would be great.

Huh, I didn’t know that.

But Japanese Mustang though. Now we can hit twice as many peds!

420Z, comes in green only, has Twitter and a trap phone built right in. They also give you a 50% discount on a Leaf.

A 4.0 liter 4 banger turbo would sure be interesting though

bruh
![]() 05/22/2016 at 14:27 |

380z is probably the best bet, due to the naming system being based on displacement, which started with the 240. I wouldn’t mind the zx nomenclature returning though.

Bring one of the smaller VQ V6s, boost it up into the 300-400hp range, cut some weight out. T-tops would be nice, but I won’t get greedy.
![]() 05/22/2016 at 16:44 |

I4s above about 2.5 tend to shake themselves apart due to their inherent imbalance. Plus I'd rather have more cylinders relative to displacement...4.0 I6 would be fun, but 4.0 V8 would be funner.
![]() 05/22/2016 at 16:50 |

You can’t have the twin...turbos...kick...in...on an I4. And you can’t name a 2.slow liter “400ZX”. The proper thing to do is make a small 2-0SX car with the 4 (NA base competes with BRZ, turbo upgrade to outrun Boostang), then a 370ZX (NA base, lower compression turbo version with 420-450hp as a lighter Mustang/Camaro).
![]() 05/22/2016 at 16:51 |

380ZX as NA successor to the 370Z, then small turbos on it for 425-450hp?

300z with the merc V6tt with a unique nismo tune

Didn’t the 968 have a 3.0l 4cyl? 4.0 is doable, (lumpy!)
![]() 05/22/2016 at 20:19 |

I want it to not be a CUV! That is all.

I never said it was a good idea I just think I beefy 4 cylinder would be interesting. Maybe it could be flat instead of inline would that help with balancing?
![]() 05/22/2016 at 22:03 |
|
A flat 4 has the balance an I4 lacks, which is why you see Subaru’s 2.5. I think they still have rocking issues at larger sizes because the cylinders aren’t aligned, so I don’t know if >3 liters would be feasible. But even if it were, a 6 or 8 would breathe & rev better at the same displacement.
I wish instead of V6s and V8s in their sedans and SUVs, Porsche would just make a flat 8 (NA and TT).

So I’m havin’ this dream...
I’m in a hybrid zee
These guys are after me
But I have 8 airbags
So they get a car
...But I have a 10 speed DSG that shifts itself really fast
So they get a p-p-plane
And juuust as they’re about to catch me
The semi
autonomous
driving
mode
Finds me a park with minimal input and button pressing required
Fuck I love this ad. But modern car ads aren’t about being awesome, because modern cars aren’t about being awesome. Not like a turbo Z.

I was about to post some exceptions, but you already put in a disclaimer.
I’m gonna do it anyway.

I’m looking forward to watching these, but that Dodge one at the end is pretty awesome. Definitely the right approach for that kind of car.
